In its 2025 results, Tesla reported deploying a record 46.7 GWh of battery energy storage — Powerwall and Megapack combined — up about 49% from the prior year. Q4 alone accounted for 14.2 GWh, the strongest quarter on record, driven by the ramp of Megafactory Shanghai and another record quarter of Powerwall installations.
The energy generation and storage segment generated roughly $12.8 billion of revenue for the year and rose to about 13% of Tesla's total revenue, up from 10% in 2024 — at notably higher gross margins than the automotive business. What began as a side project has become a structural growth engine.
Grid-scale storage is central to Tesla's mission: Megapack lets utilities store solar and wind output and dispatch it on demand, displacing fossil-fuel peaker plants.
