Tesla's flagship US plant and corporate headquarters, opened with the "Cyber Rodeo" event on 7 April 2022. It builds the Model Y and is the sole production site for the Cybertruck, and it anchors Tesla's move of its headquarters from California to Texas.
Shanghai, China · Tesla
Tesla's first plant outside the United States and a case study in speed: construction began in January 2019, production started in October, and the first cars rolled out in December — less than a year from groundbreaking. It builds the Model 3 and Model Y and serves as Tesla's main export hub.
Grünheide, Germany · Tesla
Tesla's first vehicle factory in Europe, which assembles the Model Y for European customers and produces battery components. It brought high-volume EV manufacturing to Germany's traditional auto heartland.
Fremont, California, USA · Tesla
Tesla's original car plant, in a building that began as GM's Fremont Assembly and later housed NUMMI, the GM–Toyota joint venture. Toyota agreed to sell the plant to Tesla at a steep discount in 2010, and it became the birthplace of the Model S, X, 3 and Y.

Tesla's first "Gigafactory," built from 2014 with Panasonic to mass-produce lithium-ion battery cells, packs and powertrains for Tesla's vehicles and Powerwall. It was conceived to drive down battery costs through sheer scale — the constraint Musk argued was the real bottleneck for EVs and storage.

The dedicated factory for the Tesla Megapack, the utility-scale battery that anchors Tesla's fast-growing energy-storage business. Concentrating Megapack production at a single high-volume site is central to Tesla Energy's scale-up, which now deploys tens of gigawatt-hours of storage a year.

Tesla's Buffalo plant, originally built for solar-panel and Solar Roof production and later used for Supercharger manufacturing and data-labelling for Tesla's Autopilot/AI work. It reflects the energy and software sides of Tesla beyond car assembly.

SpaceX's Starship development and launch site on the Gulf coast of South Texas, where prototypes are built, tested and flown. The rapid build-test-fly cadence here produced the first-ever "catch" of an orbital-class booster by the launch tower. In 2025 the community around the site was incorporated as the city of Starbase, Texas.

xAI's AI training supercomputer, built in Memphis in 2024. The first phase brought roughly 100,000 Nvidia GPUs online in about 122 days — an unusually fast buildout for a cluster of its size — and it has since been expanded. Colossus trains the Grok models and is central to xAI's rapid climb toward the AI frontier.
