Tesla launches Powerwall 3 with a built-in solar inverter
Powerwall 3 integrated a solar inverter directly into the home battery, raising power output and simplifying installs — making whole-home solar-plus-storage cheaper and cleaner.

Built-in
Tesla's Powerwall 3 reworked the home battery around an integrated solar inverter, eliminating a separate component and roughly tripling continuous output to about 11.5 kW. The result is a single unit that captures solar energy, stores it, and powers a whole home — including high-draw appliances — through outages.
Integrating the inverter cut installation complexity and cost, two of the biggest barriers to residential solar-plus-storage adoption. Built on durable lithium-iron-phosphate chemistry, Powerwall 3 is the home-scale complement to Tesla's grid-scale Megapack and rooftop solar, completing a generate-store-use stack for the household.
Combined with a Tesla EV, a Powerwall home can run on self-generated solar and even feed power back during peak demand, turning millions of homes into a distributed virtual power plant. It is the consumer end of the same clean-energy mission that drives Tesla Energy's utility business.
