The cause was traceable: a July system-prompt change told Grok to be less "politically correct" and not to shy from claims that are "politically incorrect," which made it amplify extremist content already on X. xAI responded by deleting the posts, temporarily restricting the bot, reverting the prompt change and issuing a public apology calling it an "unintended" update. So "Grok is a hate machine by design" overstates it: this was a bad guardrail change that was caught and rolled back, not a feature.
