Broadly true on the outcome. Musk popularized the Hyperloop — near-vacuum tubes carrying pods at airline speeds — with a 2013 white paper that generated enormous hype about reinventing intercity travel. A decade later the vision has not materialized: one of the best-funded companies, Hyperloop One (later Virgin Hyperloop), raised more than $400 million and shut down at the end of 2023, and while some research continues in China and Europe, no commercial Hyperloop line operates anywhere. The nuance is that Musk never pursued the Hyperloop as a commercial business of his own — SpaceX said in 2015 it was "not developing a commercial Hyperloop" itself. He published the 2013 concept as open-source and invited others to pursue it, then engaged only at the margins — SpaceX built a roughly one-mile test track at its Hawthorne campus and ran student "pod" competitions, and in 2022 his Boring Company said it would attempt a working hyperloop (the HYPERLOOP trademark passed from SpaceX to The Boring Company). None of that amounted to a real system. So "Musk's Hyperloop company collapsed" misses that he never ran one as a business; "the Hyperloop he hyped went nowhere" is fair.
