The Model S, delivered from June 2012, was a from-scratch electric sedan with over-the-air software updates and class-leading range. It won Motor Trend Car of the Year (2013) and recorded among the lowest probabilities of injury the NHTSA had measured, demonstrating that EVs could lead on safety and performance.
