The January 2025 fire at Moss Landing — the one that forced evacuations and destroyed a large bank of batteries — happened at a facility owned and operated by Vistra and built with lithium cells from LG Energy Solution. Reporting that pinned it on Tesla conflated Vistra's burned building with the separate Tesla "Elkhorn" Megapack project built next door by PG&E, which was not the site that suffered the January 2025 blaze. That said, honesty cuts both ways: no grid battery, Tesla's included, is fireproof.
